Our personal selection
One of our must-visits for traditional Asturian food in a wonderfully atmospheric setting, at the far end of Poniente Beach.
An elegant restaurant with a short, traditional menu. Both the meat and fish dishes are excellent.
A good nearby choice for seafood and fish, with very fair prices for this kind of produce.
Some of the best meat in Gijón, within an easy walk of the apartment.
There is plenty of variety, but the meat is the highlight. Together with El Sueve, it is one of our favourites for meat lovers.
A newer restaurant close to the apartment, with a terrace and very good burgers.
A stylish Italian restaurant near Poniente Beach, with a modern feel and consistently good food.
A well-known Italian restaurant serving very good pizzas, close to the apartment.
An Argentinian-style pastry shop almost next door, with distinctive and delicious sweet treats.
An elegant restaurant with a distinctive menu and one of our personal favourites in the Fomento area.
Carefully prepared, creative food in an elegant setting in the Fomento area.
Another Fomento favourite for a more distinctive and beautifully prepared meal.
One of our breakfast choices: generous options, easy parking and a different setting beside the stadium.
A small, family-run place for a quick bite, with excellent homemade burgers and hot dogs close to the beach.

The giant GIJÓN letters overlooking the marina are among the city's most photographed sights. From here, stroll through Jardines de la Reina and continue towards Fomento.
Calle Corrida is central Gijón's best-known pedestrian street. Continue through Los Moros and Plaza del Parchís to Paseo de Begoña for a very local walk and a drink.
The main square, City Hall, Revillagigedo Palace, the statue of King Pelayo and the Cider Tree make up one of the city's most characteristic seaside walks.
Wander through the former fishing quarter, stop at Cuesta del Cholo and climb Cerro de Santa Catalina to see Chillida's Elogio del Horizonte.
The Roman baths of Campo Valdés lie beside San Pedro Church, combining the city's history with the San Lorenzo promenade.
Walk along San Lorenzo from La Escalerona towards El Rinconín. For a longer route, continue along the coastal path towards La Providencia.
Two visits that combine perfectly: the monumental Laboral building and the Atlantic Botanical Garden right beside it.
An elevated green area with some of the finest views along Gijón's coastline, especially beautiful at sunset.
Walk along Poniente Beach and visit the Railway Museum to discover Asturias' industrial history—a good option for a less sunny day.
Towards Cantabria
Two delightful coastal villages. Tazones is small and famous for lobster rice; we recommend El Pescador, whose owners we know personally.
A dramatic coastal spectacle, particularly when the sea is rough. Check tides and conditions first, and keep well away from cliff edges.
Four very different and beautiful beaches to combine with a visit to Llanes. Cué is known for its islets, while Poo and Barro are especially lovely at the right tide.
Gulpiyuri is a tiny inland beach; Torimbia has spectacular scenery, and Cuevas del Mar is known for its rock formations. Check access and tides before setting out.
A classic full-day trip combining the sanctuary, mountain scenery and one of eastern Asturias' best-known towns.
Towards Galicia
One of Asturias' most photographed fishing villages, with colourful houses arranged around its small harbour.
A spectacular corner of western Asturias. Wear comfortable shoes and check access and sea conditions before visiting.
A bakery known for its excellent cakes and pastries—the perfect addition to a day trip in this area.
A dramatic viewpoint above the cliffs and Cantabrian Sea, particularly beautiful at the end of the day.
For all ages
Family visits to meet the animals and learn how cheese is made. Check current opening times and visit conditions beforehand.
Around 20 minutes away by car, you can pick blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. Booking is not normally required, but fruit depends on the season.
The Jurassic Museum of Asturias is a memorable family visit and combines perfectly with Lastres or Tazones.
A large family entertainment centre with bowling, arcade games and a children's play area with ball pools, tunnels, bridges and slides.
An indoor play and trampoline centre with separate areas for younger and older children.
A thalassotherapy centre with pools and family-friendly water areas.
The Aquarium, Isabel la Católica park, the Laboral, Botanical Garden and La Providencia offer plenty of varied family activities without leaving the city.
Get active outdoors
One of Asturias' best-known experiences. Several routes and companies are available; book ahead and check age requirements and conditions.
A gentle greenway through valleys and gorges. It can be enjoyed in sections and is especially good by bike, including with children; remember to arrange the return journey.
Asturias has walking routes between beaches, headlands and cliffs. Choose a suitable level and check the weather before setting out.
For visitors with a full day who want to discover Asturias' most iconic mountain scenery.
Gijón and the surrounding coast have schools and activities for different levels and Cantabrian Sea conditions.
